Hair is where background removers fall down, and where their demos quietly avoid it. This video uses the hard case — loose curls in front of a busy street — in a free, browser-based background remover. One press produces a 3072×4096 transparent PNG (the free plan’s limit is 4096 px on the long side). Put that cutout on a colour, though, and there is a pale halo round the hair: the bright street clinging to the edge of every curl. The fix is one slider — Edge tightness at +40 removes the halo and keeps the curls. A few bright specks between the curls survive every setting, which is what the erase brush is for. The background can be transparent, a solid colour or a gradient, and the page is clear that JPG cannot be transparent. Free is one image at a time up to 12 MB; Pro adds batches and a larger model, which also runs on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, and the network log is shown at the end.

Hair is where every background-remover demo cheats. This is loose curls, in front of a busy street. One press — and then I will show you the part the demos never do.
A free background remover, a genuinely hard photo, and the one setting that fixes what the first pass gets wrong. Nothing is uploaded.
Drop the photo in and press remove background. No brushes, no outlining — it finds the person on its own.
3072×4096 · transparent PNG
Show original flips back to what it started from — the street, the cars, the people behind her. All gone.
But put the cutout on a colour and look at the hair. There is a pale halo all the way round — the bright street, still clinging to the edge of every curl. That is what a default cutout looks like on hair.
Edge tightness 0 → +40
It is not perfect: a few bright specks between the curls on top survive every setting. That is what the erase brush is for — a couple of dabs, and you are done.
Then the background. Transparent, a solid colour, or a gradient. And read the note underneath: transparency needs PNG or WebP — JPG has none, so it fills with your colour.
On the free plan it is one image at a time, up to twelve megabytes. Pro adds batches and a larger model — and even that one runs on your own machine.
And the photo never left it. This is the browser’s own record of everything it fetched while that ran — not one request carried the picture.
Free, no account, nothing uploaded. Remove it, then look at the hair — and I will see you in the next video.
