WAV Compressor

Compress or convert WAV in your browser. Output FLAC, MP3, M4A, or OGG. Presets, estimated size, waveform preview. Free, client-side.

WAV is uncompressed, so files are large. Our tool lets you convert to lossless FLAC (with compression level 0–8) or lossy MP3, M4A, or OGG. You get quick presets (podcast, music, email), live estimated output size and reduction percentage, before/after waveform preview, optional loudness normalization (e.g. -14 or -16 LUFS), trim silence, and dynamic range control. All processing runs in your browser.

When to use WAV Compressor vs other formats

Convert WAV to FLAC when you need lossless compression and smaller files; use the FLAC output and compression level. Convert WAV to MP3 or M4A when you need much smaller files—try the Music high quality or Email size preset. Keep WAV only when a downstream tool requires uncompressed audio. For most listening and sharing, FLAC or high-bit-rate MP3/M4A is sufficient.

Compatibility

Output format determines compatibility: FLAC and MP3 are widely supported; M4A works great on Apple and most modern devices. The tool shows estimated output and quality meter before you compress. Choose the format that matches your target (e.g. M4A for iPhone, MP3 for maximum compatibility).

Quality considerations

WAV to FLAC is lossless—no quality loss; adjust FLAC compression level for size vs speed. WAV to MP3/M4A is lossy; use 192 kbps or higher for music. Speech can use 96–128 kbps or the Speech optimized preset. Use the quality meter to confirm your settings.

Example use cases

  • Convert recorded WAV to FLAC for smaller archive size without quality loss.
  • Export WAV mixes to MP3 or M4A for sharing or streaming.
  • Reduce size of voice or interview WAVs by converting to AAC or MP3.
  • Create smaller copies of WAV masters for review or distribution.
  • Shrink WAV exports from a DAW for email or cloud upload.
