M4A Compressor
Shrink M4A files in your browser. Presets, HE-AAC for low bitrate, estimated size, waveform preview. Free, client-side.
M4A (AAC) is already a compact format. Our tool re-encodes at your chosen bit rate and supports HE-AAC for very low bitrates (e.g. 64 kbps) for speech. Use quick presets (Mobile friendly, Podcast ready), see estimated output size and reduction percentage, and compare before/after with waveforms. Optional loudness normalization, trim silence, and metadata stripping. Processing stays in your browser.
When to use M4A Compressor vs other formats
Re-compress M4A when the source is 256 kbps or higher and you can accept 128–192 kbps; use the Mobile friendly preset for one-click setup. Use M4A when targeting Apple devices or when you want better quality than MP3 at similar size. Enable HE-AAC for 64 kbps speech. Convert to MP3 only when you need the widest compatibility. Keep FLAC or WAV for archiving.
Compatibility
Compressed M4A remains M4A and plays on Apple devices, Android, and most modern software. The tool shows estimated output and quality meter. For very old or limited players, convert the result to MP3.
Quality considerations
AAC is efficient; avoid re-encoding already low-bit-rate M4A if quality matters. For music, 128–192 kbps is a good balance; for speech, 64–96 kbps with HE-AAC can be enough. Use the quality meter to confirm.
