MP3 Compressor
Reduce MP3 file size in your browser. Free, no upload. Use presets, see estimated output, and compare before/after with waveforms. Client-side only.
MP3 is already a compressed format, but you can reduce file size further by lowering the bit rate or re-encoding with variable bitrate (VBR). Our tool lets you choose CBR or VBR, apply quick presets (podcast, music, email), see live estimated output size and reduction percentage, and preview before/after with waveforms. All processing runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
When to use MP3 Compressor vs other formats
Re-compress MP3 when the original was encoded at a high bit rate (e.g. 320 kbps) and you can accept 128–192 kbps for smaller files. Use the Podcast ready or Music high quality presets for one-click setup. Prefer compressing MP3 over converting lossless (WAV/FLAC) to MP3 if you only need a smaller MP3. For archiving, keep FLAC or WAV; for distribution, compressed MP3 is usually enough.
Compatibility
Compressed MP3 files remain MP3 and play on every device and platform. Lower bit rates (e.g. 96–128 kbps) are fine for speech; use 192–256 kbps for music. The tool shows a quality meter and estimated output so you can balance size and quality. All processing is client-side; your files never leave your device.
Quality considerations
Each re-encode can reduce quality slightly. Use the quality meter and estimated output to guide settings. If the source is already 128 kbps, compressing further may noticeably degrade sound. VBR often gives better quality at the same file size. Start from high-quality sources and use presets or bitrate that match your use (speech vs music).
Example use cases
- Reduce podcast or voice memo size for email or messaging using the Podcast ready preset.
- Shrink music files for portable devices with the Music high quality or Mobile friendly preset.
- Create smaller versions of long recordings; compare before/after with waveform preview.
- Fit more tracks onto a USB or SD card by lowering bit rate; see estimated size before compressing.
- Prepare audio for web or app use; normalize loudness to -14 LUFS for consistent playback.
